“A Nevada Non Profit Corporation”

Have A Heart Save A Horse Corp. (herein after as Have A Heart Save A Horse) became a Nevada Non-Profit Corporation in June 2009.  Jeanine Jones (President) and her husband Jason Jones received 6 horses in March 2009, at that time it became a reality that a horse rescue in the Reno, Nevada and surrounding areas was really needed.  Jeanine and Jason have 44 acres in the Spanish Springs, Nevada area and have a combined 50 years experience with support and care for horses, they have owned horses since their entire lives.  In June 2009 the need for a rescue center for horses became more apparent when we received 3 more rescues that were approximately 500 pounds underweight, it was then decided that we needed to start a local Non-Profit horse rescue and apply for our 501(c)(3), not only were rescues coming in one after the other but the expenses were becoming very large.  Have A Heart Save A Horse immediately elected a board of directors and officers Jeanine Jones (President), and Cheryl Waters (Treasurer) to get the ball rolling immediately.  We have now received our Articles of Incorporation from the State of Nevada and are currently applying for our 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.  We have recently added two new board members to our roster. Janet Bierman (Director) and M'Lissa Wilkins (Secretary) who have been volunteering with us and have shown a lot of heart and hard work for these wonderful animals.

Have A Heart Save A Horse takes in equines who may no longer have a home, who are victims of abuse, neglect or emergencies, or who are at risk of going to slaughter. The end goal for each horse/burro is to find them a forever, loving home.  More and more horses are being bred, and sadly, there will always be a need for rescue operations to step in from time to time, to ensure that no horse will go without needed homes or medical intervention.

Have A Heart Save A Horse encourages the horse owner’s to do whatever they can to make things work before just surrendering their horse to us.  We understand sometimes it is out of their hands.  When we receive a horse rescue the owner must fill out a horse ownership release form with a vet release form made out to Have A Heart Save A Horse.

At this time we have been posting openings for rescues on the Reno Craigslist.  When we receive a rescue we spend approximately 30 days (sometimes more depending on the situation) working with the rescue.  We would like to say we receive them all in a condition where they can start a new life within 30 days, but unfortunately, we have received a few that will not be fully rehabilitated for quite some time.  Once we know the type of adoptee a horse ready for adoption needs, we will review our pre qualified adoption applications and hopefully find a match.  If we do not find a match for a horse ready for adoption we will post an ad on the Reno Craigslist.  To adopt a horse from Have A Heart Save A Horse you must fill out our adoption application, we will interview you and visit the place your future horse will be kept.  Once you have been approved to adopt a horse from Have A Heart Save A Horse you will than need to complete the adoption application.  We charge a small adoption fee, which goes right back into the rescue to allow us to save another horse.

Have A Heart Save A Horse has rescued 30 horses since June 2009 and we have successfully adopted 12 of our rescues to loving families.

MISSION:

A special place where neglected, abused and abandoned domestic horses and burros can find sanctuary, care, and rehabilitation for a second chance at the life they deserve.

 OUR GOALS:

1.To rescue at risk horses/burros, bring them back to good health and condition, retrain them and help them learn to be normal horses/burros again, and place them in good quality homes to live out normal
lives.

2. Help educate horsemen in proper care, training, riding instruction, and particularly owner education when an animal would otherwise be at risk of neglect or other mismanagement.

3. Increase public awareness of horse slaughter, neglect and abuse.

4. Place horses/burros with sufficient adoption fees to ensure a good home, as well as ensure funding to support those not yet ready for placement.

Have A Heart Save A Horse is dedicated to saving horses/burros and giving them a second chance at life and love. Our goal is to heal and gentle these previously damaged horses/burros and adopt them into forever, loving homes. We say a prayer everyday that the funds will come in so we can continue to give these beautiful animals a chance at life.

We do our best to make each and every rescued horse feel loved, treasured and respected for who they are and then given a second chance at happiness.  Horses can't choose the people in their lives, for them it is all chance. Horses that are saved by us can rest assured that their troubles are truly over.  We do everything in our power to serve our horses and give them the life they deserve to live. With your support we will be able to give a new life to a horse that is out there suffering right now.  Please don't wait, save a life today!
